A clear, colourless to pale liquid with a slight odour that does not show through in the finished product. It is a blend of alpha hydroxy acids extracted from blueberries, sugarcane, oranges, lemons, and sugar maple. The extraction process reduces colour and odour and concentrates the active principles. The extracts are then blended and concentrated even further by vacuum distillation.
- Use at 1-2% for daily products and between 5-10% for more intensive, specific treatments.
- Water-soluble, so cannot be used in oil only products.
- It is not heat stable, so should be used in Stage 3 (cool stage) when making creams and lotions. We recommend storing it in the fridge when it is not in use.
- The pH is between 4-5. Check your finished pH to ensure it is skin compatible.
It is usually best to combine AHA Natural Fruit Extract with other ingredients that are calming and soothing to the skin. However, if it is to be used in a rinse off product like a face mask, it may not be worthwhile to combine with other materials that are more beneficial when left on the skin.
Cautions/Contraindications
Remember that adding higher amounts of an acid material may make a cream or lotion runnier.
Do not use in combination with exfoliating scrubs in the same product, as that may be too aggressive for the skin.
