What is it?

Now also in 50ml! A novel odour reducing ingredient for bodies, product bases and background odours. Natural Odour Reducer (NOR for short) is a derivative of citronella essential oil, but contributes no discernable odour to products. While it is not a bactericide, it has proved effective in tests at neutralising odours, especially fatty notes. This means that it is an effective addition to deodorising or odour-neutralising products, but also can be used in formulations that contain natural oils or fats, to improve the base odour of these products. It is oil soluble and easy to incorporate into oily, alcohol mixtures and to stir into finished emulsion products. It is also effective at neutralising ‘environmental’ odours such as tobacco smoke, bleach and chlorine on skin and hair.

Recommended dosage and how to use in products

NOR has a long history of safe use in cosmetic products. Use up to 1% in all products. Not recommended for lip/oral area.

Storage Shelf Life

Up to 3 years (see label for best before date). Store cool and dark in an airtight container.

Tips/Extra Information

Formulating information

• It has a flashpoint of 89°C, so we recommend adding NON at the end of any hot processing, to minimise any loss.
• NOR may affect the viscosity of surfactant formulations thickened solely with salt; it is recommended that a combination thickening system is employed.
• NOR can be safely used in cosmetic products with a pH from 3 to 10.

Safety and animal welfare

NOR has a long history of safe use in cosmetic products. It is cleared for use in most countries, and has not been tested on animals for more than 20 years.

A personal note from Kolbjorn

I’ve personally tested this Natural Odour Reducer (NOR for short!) on some creams that had a strong base odour as a result of some of the ingredients and I found the strong smell reduced. Use up to 1% in creams, lotions, gels, hair care products, soaps, deodorants, hand washes, room fresheners, and in oil-based blends such as massage oils, facial oils and serums.
