SEASON'S GREETINGS AND LATEST NEWS
BEAT THE PRICE INCREASE!
First of all I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Near from all of us at Aromantic. Thank you for your continued support as your support enables me to develop new recipes, books and courses. Without you buying our raw materials and products I wouldn't be able to investigate and write all this literature.
Open day in London
The open day was a great success and approximately 100 people turned up. The concept of having an open day every Autumn has been born.
Prices for the coming year
As you all know, the value of the pound has plunged compared to the euro and dollar lately. As more or less all our raw materials are bought in these currencies we should have already have adjusted our raw material prices but have held on to our old prices until now. However, from around the 5th or 6th of January our prices will increase by 10% in general as a result of this. If you are buying from the Aromantic website or are ordering by phone, we will still keep the old prices until 6th January. You pay as always when we actually despatch the goods. The last day we will work before Christmas will be Monday 22nd December and we will not re-open until Monday 5th Janaury 2009.
COSMOS - Standard project for standardising organic/natural cosmetics
This project is a working group of organisations like ICEA (Italy), BDIH (Germany), Bioforum (Belgium), Ecocert (France) and the Soil Association (UK) in order to define minimum requirements and definitions for organic and/or natural cosmetics.
It is very important that we all come in with our objections or concerns regarding what they are proposing. They ask us all for a consultation that opened on 3rd November 2008 and will last until 3rd January 2009. You can visit their website at www.cosmos-standard.org where you will find a questionnaire which covers a wide range of points and of course you can then email that to them.
One point of concern is that phenoxyethanol is not included as a qualified preservative but you can look for others.
Please search through this material and if you have concerns please put them in the questionnaire. I am sure if 100 to 200 of you small producers come with your ideas and concerns they will listen.
Perhaps if you have some quiet moments between Christmas and New Year you could do this then.
Send an Aromantic Gift Voucher for Christmas
Aromantic Gift Vouchers make a perfect Christmas present for friends, family, and business associates. They can be used towards purchasing ANY product or course available on this website. As soon as we have verified your payment (normally within the same working day) the Gift Voucher will be activated and the recipient will be sent an email with the details along with any personal message that you enter.
Why not give someone you know the gift of getting started in the world of
making natural skin care products?

Again, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Aromantic.

NEW LOWER V.A.T. RATE OF 15% NOW APPLIED!
SAVE 2.5% ON V.A.T. RATED PRODUCTS
The UK rate of V.A.T. (sales tax) has been reduced to 15.0% from 17.5%. The deadline for retailers to apply this new rate is 01.12.2008.
We have acted fast to pass on this saving to our customers and as of 26.11.2008 you can now order from this web site at the new lower V.A.T. rate. Please remember also that many of our food-rated products such as Vegetable Oils are zero rated, meaning that you do not pay a single penny in V.A.T.
Greetings from us all at Aromantic,

The Aromantic Autumn/Christmas 2008 Newsletter is now available to download as a PDF file from our website.
This bumper 52-page edition took almost 3 months to produce and is the culmination of several weeks of research into the many new so-called "natural" raw materials which are available on the market. We have sourced some new ones which are the most interesting and innovative whilst wherever possible being organic.

I am also pleased to announce that Aromantic are now the first company in the UK to stock natural Silicone. This is one of 25 new products which we have added to our catalogue within the past few days. Details of these can be found in the Newsletter on pages 2-13. We have updated our Postage & Packing which now includes the option for you to arrange you own courier collection.
Read on to find out how you may be able to save money with your Postage & Packing charges...
Using your own courier - only for parcels over 2kg being sent to International destinations.
Postage and packaging costs are calculated based upon your shipping zone and the weight of your order. At Aromantic we aim to process and despatch all orders within 3-5 working days (may vary in busy periods), using Air Mail for parcels weighing under 2 kg and for parcels weighing over 2kg, we use our courier service. Delivery times after despatch varies from country to country.
We endeavour wherever possible to keep P&P costs as low as possible for our customers. However, customers in certain countries may save money by organising their own shipping. Please note that you are responsible for organising the pick up and delivery of your parcel and payment of your courier. If you are interested in this option, please see the information below.
Ordering online
If you would like to do this please tell us in the ‘customer notes box’ when you place an order online. The customer notes box can be found at the bottom of the same page as where you would enter your payment details during the checkout process. We will then deduct the P & P costs that have been automatically added to your order in the shopping cart.
Once the payment for your goods has been accepted we will contact you to give you the dimensions and weight of your parcel and to let you know that your order is ready to be picked up by the courier you have arranged. Please ensure that your parcel is collected within 7 days of us contacting you.
Ordering by telephone, fax or e-mail
If you are placing an order by telephone, please tell our member of staff when ordering that you want to organise your own shipping. When placing your order by fax or e-mail please make sure that you have included your request to arrange your own shipping. Once the payment for your goods has been accepted we will contact you to give you the dimensions and weight of your parcel and to let you know that your order is ready to be picked up by the courier you have arranged. UK EXHIBITIONS 2008
AROMANTIC NOT ATTENDING EXHIBITIONS IN 2008
We have been getting a lot of calls from customers asking whether Kolbjorn is attending exhibitions this year. Just to clarify, Kolbjorn will neither be attending the Holistic Health Exhibition at Donington Park this weekend, 21-22 September 2008 nor the CAM Expo at Earls Court, London on the 25-26 October 2008. These are major exhibitions that Aromantic normally attend but this year Kolbjorn has prioritised the writing of his books as he wants to make his knowledge more available to you so that you can benefit from his extensive experience.
In fact he is finalising a book filled with brand new recipes which will be out within the next few months. The subject is still a secret but watch this space!

PRICE INCREASES ON RAW MATERIALS
PRICE INCREASES ON RAW MATERIALS
Due to global events and fluctuations in the economy, we have been forced to raise our prices on certain raw materials....
As many of you may be aware, these last few weeks have seen protest and rioting in many developing countries as millions are affected by rising food prices. Increased energy and fuel prices, competition amongst biofuel producers and crop failures with the resulting food shortages have resulted in the marked increase of special vegetable oils. Because of the competition from the biofuel sector, oils like sunflower and thistle oil used for food have seen stock market increases of 30-40%.
India and China are ‘vacuuming’ the world, not only for metals but also for vegetable oils and are buying up entire export crops from whole countries. Some vegetable oils may be difficult to get because of this. Aromantic seems to have the only 200 litre drum of Jojoba Oil in the UK and the next harvest is next July/August so we have restricted sales to 5 litres per customer. We still have Sunflower Oil and Organic Thistle (Safflower) Oil but with 10% price increases. As most of the products we sell come from the Euro zone and the pound has decreased its strength by 13% against the euro and the Swedish krona, we need to increase or prices, most often by 10%.
However, because the market is so volatile we suggest you check our website for the most up to date prices. We will have a PDF document with the most up to date prices for downloading from our website as well, in case you prefer to see the prices all in one place. For new customers who request a printed 2007/8 catalogue, we are only sending out our 2007/8 catalogue for the product information and descriptions they contain but we will also send out a printed version of the latest prices along with the catalogue.
Due to the continuing droughts around the world, citrus essential oils will increase in price in the near future. There also only very small supplies left of Roman Chamomile (doubling the market price), Hyssop (price doubled), Bergamot, Palmarosa, Patchouli and Ylang Ylang. As the supplies become even shorter, these prices will increase. Tea Tree Oil has almost doubled in price due the fact that so many farmers have stopped farming it. As you can see our essential oil prices are unpredictable and some will go up in price due to the global factors mentioned and some, we’re not sure which at this point, may go down in price in the following months due to Aromantic having expanded such that we can take advantage of a better discount tier with our supplier. The price of vegetable-based Glycerine will increase much more than 10% in the near future. We’ve had more or less the same price for 10 years but now it has increased radically in the last few months.
In many ways we are more blessed than the poor people in Bangladesh are and other developing countries where already poor people have to cope with the doubling and even quadrupling of their most stable food, rice.
