Publications

Aromantic’s Books and Recipe Brochures have been designed and written to provide you with Recipes, information and instructions needed to make your own Spa Treatments and also other skin care products, from raw materials using simple equipment. Also included is basic raw material information. These unique publications reveal the Recipes and know-how you need to be able to start making dozens of different products, inexpensively and naturally.

Courses

We offer a range of Courses for all levels of experience that offer you the opportunity to learn how to make natural skin care and cosmetic products that are tailor-made to specific skin conditions, either for your own personal use or for those of you who are professional practitioners. More specifically, we offer Advanced Spa Products 1 and Advanced Spa Products 2, each a one-day course with Kolbjorn Borseth that combine theory and practice. These are very intensive courses during which you’ll make a lot of professional spa products that can be for your own use, sold to your therapy clients, or sold commercially to the public. A comprehensive range of course materials are provided for each student and several products made during the practical sessions are for students to take home. On the Advanced Spa Products 1 Course we make products based on recipes for bath salts, bath melts, body butters, exfoliates, cleansers and toners. You will receive over 80 new recipes and a lot of extra knowledge, including recipes for bath oils, bath foams, massage oils, face oils and anti-wrinkle oils, all of which are easy to make at home. On the Advanced Spa Products 2 Course we make products based on recipes for treating acne as well as varicose veins as well for eye creams and gels, and compresses. You will receive over 80 new recipes.

Spa Recipes

Sugar Scrub Recipe

This recipe is taken from Aromantic Newsletter no 27, Spring 2008. Sugar cane produces glycolic acid, one of the natural alpha hydroxy acids that exfoliates the skin.

This Sugar Scrub is a luxurious blend of sugar in vitamin-rich and cleansing oils that is suitable for dry/sensitive skin. If you do have sensitive skin, remember to use essential oils that are suitable, such as lavender, chamomile, etc. If you want to turn this Scrub into an Anti-Cellulite product, then why not add Celery Seed (Organic) Essential Oil or our Detox Essential Oil Blend as they will help treat cellulite by stimulating the lymphatic system.

100g Brown Sugar
5ml Thistle Oil
5ml Avocado Oil
5ml Castor Oil
2ml/g Vitamin E Oil (undiluted, 100%)
20-25 drops Essential Oils

Method for making the Sugar Scrub

1. Mix all of the ingredients together and fill into jar and label.
2. The Scrub will keep for 1 year.

Method for using all Scrubs and Polishes

1. When you are showering, take a portion of your body polish into your hand and gently "polish" your body using a firm but gentle circular motion, paying particular attention to the dry areas of your body.
2. Wash off the body polish while you’re showering.
3. Remember to take extra care as the oils in your body polish can make the shower floor or bath quite slippery.
4. It will exfoliate dead skin cells and moisturise your body, but you may need to apply another moisturiser, depending on how your skin feels.

Cleansing Gel with Clay

Here the framework is provided by xanthan gum and water which together create a gel. To this clay is added as a cleansing agent.

NB! The clay must be sprinkled into the water. Allow it to gently settle. The xanthan gum is beaten in vigorously in Stage 2.

This gel is sufficiently liquid to be stored in bottles. If you wish to make a thicker gels to keep in jars, add an additional 0.5-1g xanthan gum to your recipe. Does not remove eye make–up. Massage into dry skin & rinse off. Use the right clay for your skin type. See our Face Mask article for more information.

Stage 1
84ml Orange Flower Water
1g/2ml/1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum

Stage 2
3 drops Lemon Essential Oil
2 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil
10g Clay

Method for making Cleansing Gel with Clay

1. Stage 1 - Measure the water in a jug and pour into a bowl.
2. Measure a level 2ml measuring spoon with xanthan gum powder.
3. Sprinkle the xanthan gum powder over the water little by little, whisking vigorously. If your gel gets lumpy, blend until smooth with an electric blender.
4. When there are no more lumps, stop whisking or blending.
5. Stage 2 - Add all of the other pre-measured ingredients and mix well in to the gel. NB! The clay must be sprinkled into the water. Allow it to gently settle.

Helpful hint

It is useful to write down all your recipes, including the ones which are not so successful, along with the date, a batch number and the intended purpose of the product. With all this information you should be able to work out the reason for any problems you may have and more importantly will be able to reproduce your successes.

The main thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy yourself!
