Parts used are the whole plant. When collecting Horsetail it is important to gather the right variety (Equisetum palustre is poisonous). Horsetail contains the highest amounts of Silica (5-8%) of all known herbs. In addition to Silica, Horsetail contains large amounts of potassium as well as starch and many fatty acids and 5% saponins.

Horsetail is clarifying; is astringent and it closes the pores
Because of its high silica content the whole plant is used as an abrasive
A strong Decoction is used externally for Baths, Foot Baths and Compresses
As Horsetail has a high Silica content, it is excellent for adding strength, thickness and shininess to hair.

Horsetail can be used in creams, lotions, gels, balms, ointments, cleansers, peelers, toners etc.
Can combine it with Horsetail herbs and silica powder
In a mouthwash use10% Horestail Tincture diluted in water or other ingredients
It is astringent and helps to close pores so is good to use in toners and after shave products

Can I add it to ready-made products?
You can add it to all ready made products, like creams, lotions and shampoos but beware that all of them become thinner when you add an alcohol based product to a product based on emulsifiers, detergents and gels
Recommended Dosage/How to use in products
Deodorant sprays you can use up to 80% as a blend of tinctures
In toners, aftershave and face spritzers for oily skin use up to 30% as a possible blend of tinctures
Toners for other skin types use up to 20% as a possible blend of tinctures
Storage and Shelf Life
Store in a cool dark place and it will keep for up to 6 years
Tips/Extra Information
Excellent for oily skin as it helps to close pores and astringent and at the same time reduces the oilyness by adding an alcohol to dry out the skin
