- Thank you for your enquiry. The D-Panthenol is water soluble and should be used at 2-5% in formulations. This is a cosmetic ingredient which should not be used directly from the bottle. - Good Evening Aromantic, Can i just add D panthenol only to your 'Base gel with Aloe Vera' or will i need to add addition preservatives etc.. and will it mix in satisfactorily ? It will be for my own use, and i would plan to made small amounts at a time. How long might is shelf life be? Looking forward to your reply Thanks Ann
- Yes you can mix D-Panthenol with Base gel as they are both water soluble but I would recommend adding preservative too. Aloe Vera is difficult to preserve so adding any water soluble ingredients will push the preservative that is already in the gel over its limits and may result in microbial growth. Without adding preservative I would use whatever has been made within 3-4 days. With added preservative it would give a minimum shelf life of 6 months to 1 year. Although Base gel is very useful it can be drying to the skin when used neat, even adding D-Panthenol will not stop it from having a drying effect if used repeatedly.
- Hi, can I use panthenol in an oil-only cream formulation if I combine panthenol with an emulsifier?
- Thank you for your enquiry. Please see the below response from our Research and Development Team; "If it is a cream formulation, by definition, that cream is a combination of oil and water emulsified to be stable with an emulsifier. You can add emulsifiers to an oil only blend sometimes, but as soon as you add the water-soluble D-Panthenol, you have to consider which preservative to use, the final pH of the product and whether the finished product with the small amount of water-soluble product remains stable or not."
- D Panthenol - "water soluble so it cannot be used in oil only products" - Does it mean I cannot add this to hair cream that is only oil based? For example, butters + carrier oils + Essential oils - Vitamin E. Can it come into this as an active ingredient?
- Thank you for your enquiry. That is correct. If the hair cream was an emulsion then you could add D-Panthenol but as your product is anhydrous you cannot add water soluble ingredients to it.
