Spikenard (Organic)

A warm, sweet woody, earthy, musty aroma. Often called Nard Oil.

Inci: Nardostachys jatamansi oil

What is it?

A pale to golden yellow oil of medium viscosity obtained from hydrodistillation of the roots of the plant, Nardostachys Jatamansi.

How to use it

Skin Care

Has a great affinity for the skin so include in beauty creams, lotions and gels especially for more mature skins

 

Excellent in around the eye treatments and serums for treating wrinkles.

 

Use in rejuvenating masks and body wraps as it helps to maintain youthful looking skin.

 

Soothes rashes, allergic reactions and skin inflammations. Being antibiotic as well would make this ideal for using in acne prone skin products.

 

Good to use for eczema prone skin.

 

As an antifungal, it would be beneficial to use in a foot cream or gel.

 

An effective deodorant so add it to roll on and cream deodorants blends.

 

Hair Care

Very effective against dandruff so include in shampoos as well as conditioners.

 

Other

Combine with Lavender in an oil burner or nebuliser for a calming and relaxing home environment.

 

Effective as an insect repellant.

 

Very nice fragrance to use in soaps and bath products.

 

Suggested Blends

Blend with Roman Chamomile, Petitgrain and Clary Sage to work on knotted muscles especially neck and shoulders. Could use in a gel in a roller ball for easy application.

Traditional Aromatherapy Uses

Traditionally used by qualified aromatherapists as an emotionally healing oil that allows you to let go and move on releasing old fears and deeply held grudges. Ideal to use with Fragonia.

 

It is sedative and helps with insomnia and migraines.

Historical Information

An ancient oil that is mentioned in the Song of Solomon in the Bible and was often used in spiritual and religious traditions.

 

Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with the herb and it allows forgiveness. She also used it at the crucifixion.

 

It was one of oils used in the mummification processes used by the Ancient Egyptians.

 

Used in Ayurvedic medicine for its anticonvulsive and antiepileptic properties.

 

Every Monarch that has been crowned in the UK is anointed with a special blend that includes Spikenard oil.
