Method:

  • Combine the Alpha Detergent and Beta T, then add the water and stir together gently to thicken. Do not stir quickly as this will create air bubbles.
  • Add the Stage 2 ingredients individually, stirring gently to incorporate fully, then bottle and label accordingly.

Aromantic’s liquid panthenol is 75% panthenol so use 75% of the amount in the recipe above (2.6%). Use 2.5% to keep things simple. Add the powdered panthenol to the water before adding the surfactants. Then make up the recipe without adding the essential oils. If this is a thick consistency, then it is the essential oils that you have chosen that have caused the problem rather than the panthenol powder. You will need to experiment with different essential oils to find out which ones are compatible in this system and take notes of everything that you do. It is a common problem encountered when using essential oils in surfactant systems.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please see the below response from our Research and Development Team;

“Unfortunately it does sound like the Panthenol powder has caused problems but we don’t have experience with the powdered form so are unable to make any suggestions for that particular ingredient.

However we stock Saccharide Isomerate Plus which is a fabulous alternative to D-Panthenol in a body wash and may be useful to you."

I tried to make the shower gel, following the instructions. I did not have a liquid d-panthenol, so added 1/2 amount of powdered one (adjusting the water accordingly) Straight after that the mixture that started thickening nicely beforehand turned very runny and has not thickened since. Could you please advise on why this may have happened? I believe that liquid and powdered form of panthenol could be used interchangeably (with some water adjustments)
Thank you for your assistance.
