Product Description
Product Description
Organic Sea Buckthorn CO2 Extract is a versatile, oil-soluble botanical ingredient obtained from CO2 extraction of sea buckthorn berry pulp. This process retains the full profile of beneficial compounds such as carotenoids, tocopherols, phytosterols and fatty acids that make this extract great for skin and hair care.
From the Hippophae rhamnoides shrub native to Europe and Asia, the bright red-orange berries are renowned for their nutritional value.
CO2 extraction ensures the extract is solvent-free and as close to the plant as possible.
This premium extract has a thick, oily texture and ranges in colour from clear to turbid red. With the added benefit of a rosemary antioxidant, this extract has superior stability and a longer shelf life. Whether you’re creating a nourishing facial serum, a hair mask or a body butter, Sea Buckthorn CO2 Extract adds a nutrient-rich profile to any product.
Production Process
Production Process
The extract is produced using supercritical CO2 extraction—a method that uses pressurized carbon dioxide to extract essential oils and lipophilic compounds from the sea buckthorn berry pulp. Here’s how it’s made:
Step 1: Harvesting
Berries are handpicked at peak ripeness to maximise nutrient content.
Step 2: Drying
To preserve potency, berries are gently dried to reduce moisture content without degrading active compounds.
Step 3: CO2 Extraction
Using German-engineered equipment, carbon dioxide under high pressure is used to extract the oil without the use of heat or harsh solvents.
Step 4: Filtration
The raw oil is then filtered to remove plant particles and clarify the final extract.
Step 5: Packaging
Stored in dark glass bottles to protect from light degradation, keeping potency and freshness.
This process ensures the extract retains its high concentration of skin-loving nutrients.
How to use it
How to Use
Use at 1-3%. Can be used in both water (not purely water-based products as it is oil-based and so will not mix) and oil-based products. Add during Stage 3 for creams, lotions and balms.
Can be used in water products such as toners with the help of an emulsifier such as Polysorbate 20.
Can be added to already-made products such as gels, lotions, creams, shampoos, liquid soaps and body washes but may need to be heated gently (to no more than 40°C) to melt any fatty particles within the extract.
