Product Description
Product Description
Emulsifying Wax (BTMS 25) is a versatile plant derived ingredient to create rich and stable emulsions. It blends oil and water to form smooth, luxurious creams, lotions and hair conditioners.
BTMS 25 is conditioning agent, gives silky, soft finish to hair and light, hydrating feel to skin. Makes hair easier to comb through and feels light on the hair. No need for additional stabilisers or thickeners, simplifies formulation and improves product performance.
This emulsifying wax is made from sustainable rapeseed oil and palm oil sources, non-GM, vegetable-based based but chemically processed. Easy to use and premium results, a must-have for both beginner and professional formulators.
BTMS-25 is a cationic emulsifying wax used in cosmetic formulations. It enhances formulations by providing conditioning and emulsifying properties, which improve the effectiveness and texture of hair care and skin care products. This ingredient is loved for its ability to give luxurious feel and make products easier to comb through due to its cationic properties.
What is Cationic Emulsifying Wax
Cationic emulsifying wax, like BTMS-25, is an emulsifier that carries a positive charge. This unique property allows BTMS-25 to adsorb onto the skin and hair, providing exceptional conditioning and softening effects.
BTMS-25 has 25% of behentrimonium methosulfate and is used in hair care products like conditioners and shampoos to create a thick and creamy emulsion. It’s also used in lotions and body butters to provide emollient and thickening properties. Understanding the characteristics of cationic emulsifying waxes, including emulsifying lotions and body scrubs, is important for formulators to create effective and stable products. By using the benefits of BTMS-25, formulators can enhance the texture, feel, and performance of their hair and skin care formulations.
Formulation Considerations with Cetearyl Alcohol
Cetearyl alcohol is a common ingredient in hair and skin care products, often used in combination with other ingredients. When formulating with cetearyl alcohol, it’s important to consider its properties and how it interacts with other ingredients. Cetearyl alcohol can thicken and stabilise emulsions, but can also affect the overall texture and feel of the product. For example, it can give a powdery feel to base lotions and base cream creations. Formulators must balance the ratio of cetearyl alcohol to other ingredients like BTMS-25 to achieve the desired texture and performance. Also, cetearyl alcohol can affect the pH of the product, which is critical when working with ingredients like BTMS-25, which has a recommended pH range of 5-7. By understanding these formulation considerations, formulators can create high-quality products that meet their specifications.

How to use it
How to Use
Oil soluble, so use in Stage 1 when making creams and lotions.
When ready, pour Stage 1 into Stage 2 to create an oil-in-water emulsion. See recipes for details.
Use 1% to 10% in formulations.
We suggest 3% to 5% with 3% oils for a light lotion.
6% to 10% with up to 20% oils will give a thicker cream.
Using solid fats as part of the oil phase will also add extra thickness.
Skin Care
A fantastic emulsifier for all skin care products, leaving a silky and powdery feel on the skin.
It imparts softness and smoothness along with excellent hydration.
It produces stable emulsions that can cope with the addition of tinctures as well as more challenging ingredients like AHAs and Hyaluronic Acid.
When used at the maximum with solid fats, it can make a body butter texture that is as good as any butters-only recipe, with the added benefit of being able to include water-soluble actives as well.
When used at the lower percentages, it makes very elegant lotions that can be used as serums for anti-aging products.
Hair Care
It is an excellent hair conditioner when made up into a cream or lotion, even before any actives are added.
It is extremely mild, so it can be used for leave in and scrunch type conditioners.
Use in hair conditioners, detanglers and deep conditioning hair packs.
Very effective on coarse and frizzy hair making it softer and more flexible as well as improving wet combing and detangling.
It is substantive to fine, flyaway hair and imparts excellent body whilst curly hair will have greater spring and curl retention.

Tips for BTMS 25
Tips for BTMS 25
Working with BTMS-25 is easy, but here are some tips to keep in mind.
First, melt the BTMS-25 in the heated oil phase, as it has a melting point of around 60°C. This will ensure the ingredient is fully incorporated and the emulsion is stable.
Also, be aware that BTMS-25 can make products smell fishy if used in high concentration. To avoid this, use a lower concentration of BTMS-25 or combine it with other ingredients to mask the scent.
