Product Description
Product Description
Natural Vitamin E Oil is an antioxidant blend derived from non-GMO vegetable oils, enriched with Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil for smooth application. It’s rich in alpha, beta, gamma and delta tocopherols—making it the best for protecting both the skin and cosmetic formulations from oxidative damage.
Unlike synthetic versions, our natural tocopherols are bioavailable and better tolerated by the skin, enhancing product performance and skin nourishment. It stabilises oils and fats, delays rancidity and preserves product freshness without synthetic preservatives.
Use in creams, lotions, balms, oils and serums, it adds value to your formulations by promoting skin health and product stability.
What is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that plays a vital role in healthy skin. This fat soluble vitamin is present naturally on the surface of the skin and comes in different forms—alpha-tocopherol, beta-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol, and delta-tocopherol. Known for its antioxidant properties, Vitamin E protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals, environmental stressors and solar radiation. In this article we will talk about the benefits of Vitamin E for skin care, its types and uses in cosmetic products.
Types of Vitamin E
Vitamin E has 8 fat soluble compounds—4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. Our formulation is focused on mixed tocopherols with low alpha-tocopherol content (<14%) to ensure antioxidant synergy without risk of oxidation. This balance supports skin performance and formulation longevity.
Natural vs Synthetic Vitamin E
Natural Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) is derived from vegetable sources and is more bioavailable and effective than synthetic versions (dl-alpha tocopherol).
While synthetic versions may extend shelf life economically, they lack antioxidant potency and are less absorbed by the skin.
How It Works
Vitamin E neutralises free radicals, protects skin from environmental stressors like pollution and UV exposure. It also gives skin glow by overall skin health and addressing specific skin issues. It also strengthens skin’s lipid barrier, retains moisture and improves skin texture. Also vitamin E combats sun damage by replenishing skin’s ability to fight signs of aging caused by environmental stressors like sun exposure. This dual action makes it essential in anti-aging and hydration focused formulations.
Stability and Safety
Vitamin E is generally stable but sensitive to light and air. To maximise longevity store products containing it in cool, dark places. Our natural Vitamin E is blended with sunflower seed oil to improve pourability and reduce oxidation risk.
Sources of Vitamin E
Our Vitamin E is extracted from non-GMO sunflower oil, previously sourced from soy, though the wheat components do not affect the product’s gluten free status due to processing methods. Consuming vitamin E through diet is also important for overall health benefits. This makes it safe and effective for wide range of skincare applications. A healthy diet rich in vitamin E can significantly improve skin health.
Natural sources of vitamin E such as d-alpha-tocopherol derived from vegetable oils and wheat germ are preferred over synthetic versions. Olive oil is one of the richest dietary source of vitamin E, contributes to skin nourishment and overall well being. The richest sources of vitamin E are nuts, spinach, whole grains, olive oil and sunflower oil. Sunflower oil is particularly noted for its high vitamin E content and role in healthy skin.
How to use it
Skin Care
Vitamin E is a classic antioxidant that slows down the appearance of ageing and has a nourishing effect on the skin so helps to maintain healthy skin.
Essential to use in age defying creams, gels and serums. It prevents moisture loss in the skin, so is especially good for dry and crepey skin.
It acts as a deep pore cleanser and helps to balance the sebum production.
Helps to protect the skin from damage caused by environmental pollutants like exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, harsh weather conditions and solar radiation.
It is an excellent choice in products to be used on scarred and blemished skin.
Use in acne prone skin products.
Offers soothing relief to burned skin - best when blended with other appropriate ingredients.
Hair Care
It prevents moisture loss in the hair as well as moisturizing the scalp.
Other
Use 0.5% to 15%. Oil soluble so cannot be used in water only products.
It can be used in small amounts in water based gels that will hold it in suspension.
Heat sensitive so must be used in Stage 3 (below 40°C) when making creams and lotions.
Adding a minimum of 0.5% to your oil blends, creams and lotions is the bare minimum to help slow down oxidation of the product.
However, we really want to have a good antioxidant effect in our skin as well so for that purpose, you normally have to add more. 1% or 2% adds a good antioxidant effect.
Once you go above 3% we feel that you need to consider the whole formulation in a different way and may need to add some Rosemary Antioxidant as well.
Each formulation will be different because of the fatty acid profiles of the oils chosen.
Using Vitamin E at the higher levels like 10% will feel extremely sticky and unpleasant on the skin.
It can also cause reddening of the skin as the higher percentages have an exfoliating effect on the skin.
Of course, this my be an action that you want, for example, to help reduce the appearance of scar tissue.
It will also need Rosemary Antioxidant as stated above.
